In the morning of the first official day of the GORE-TEX Experience Tour, the excitement was palpable. The planned ski tour day of the GORE-TEX Experience Tour Ride and Surf Lofoten had arrived. After a large breakfast, group breakouts (beginner, intermediate, advanced), meeting the five guys from the Northern Alpine Guides and a quick introduction to the technology and products from GORE, it got serious: equipment check, furs stripped and we were off to see more new, awe-inspiring and unoccupied landscapes of Lofoten. Depending on the group’s level, the guides had chosen an appropriate tour, though all groups had one thing in common: they all had their breath taken away, either on the climb or at the summit. Nowhere else in the world will you find the unbelievable views of the water and the landscape that you do in every corner of Lofoten. Each athlete joined a group and shared in their excitement over conquered summits, the scenery and the runs in powder snow. Even the biting wind which blew from the water over the island was quickly forgotten. The athletes told stories about this and that. And so that everyone in the group could hear all the different stories, everyone found themselves gathered that evening after dinner at the Lofoten Ski Lodge. Nico Zacek moderated as he, Seb Michaud, Simon Strangfeld and Greg Hill showed impressive pictures and videos, and opened up about their sport, their lives as professional athletes and their take on sport and life. Eventually the room grew tired. But the group were still excited as they got into bed because Saturday was the big day – the day on which “Ride and Surf Lofoten” would come true. Sunshine - check, waves - check, snow – check. First a ski tour, then surfing on arctic waves, all in one day! Photographer: Manuel Ferrigato
