Wicking Test

Every material used in the shaft of a GORE-TEX® shoe is subject to the Wicking Test.

It is not only the GORE-TEX® lining that is crucial for the durable waterproofing of our shoes, but also the other materials used for the shaft.

These must be water repellent, because materials that absorb water carry moisture to the edge of the shaft by capillary action, and in extreme cases to the inside of the shoe. That is why we test the shoe’s leather and foam to the stitching and laces, to determine how much water they absorb.
